Skirts Skirts Skirts!

My fabric co-op was running a skirt contest back in March. Perfect I thought, I love skirts for the summer! I decided to enter the contest and I planned out a whole bunch of them and actually cut out the fabrics and linings for 5 of them. Five. Back in March. None got completed by the end of March but one by one they all did eventually make it out of the "in progress" pile and I've just about finished all of them. The "just about" part is needed for one which needs a bit of ripping and resewing.
Three of them are the Amy Butler Barcelona Skirt pattern. One is Simplicity 2655 and one is a weird combination (this is the one that still needs work!)

I was really pleasantly surprised by the Simplicity pattern. I will definitely use it again - I love the flounce at the bottom particularly. It's hard to tell with the busy pattern (Amy Butler Daisy Chain in Dandelion Fields Forest) but it's 6 panels, a yoke on top and the flounce on the bottom.

And now the three Barcelona Skirts. I've made this pattern three times before, it's just a perfect a-line and the layered version is really fun too.

So that fifth skirt is the black/red/white/multi one peaking out in the picture above. I started with the Barcelona shape on top, added a strip of the red full moon dots and a flounce in the Mirabelle fabric for the bottom. Unfortunately I think it looked better on my head and is quite wild in person! It also currently has some shape issues so I'm planning on fixing it and giving it another look.

Even more Disney clothes!

We're back, but now my neice and nephew are off for their first trip to Disney World. The trip is also a joint birthday gift from their parents so i thought the bulk of my gifts to them should be some special Disney clothes.

I made my nephew some of them same sets I made for my 3 year old son so I won't bother posting those. I had heard they would be doing a character breakfast with Lilo and Stitch and I found these cute designs to print (again, iron-on transfer paper). I so love how these come out!
Which reminds me I have a few more of these to do this week...

Another cute T, this time paired with a dotty tiered skirt:

And finally, my first dress! I think it was actually quicker to make than the skirt above. I used the Flowergirl Dress pattern from Heather Ross' Weekend Sewing book and enlarged it a bit.

I hope the dress fits her well and they have a wonderful vacation!

Spring to Finish 2

I'm back from vacation with a mountain of laundry and an equally impressive mountain of unfinished projects! I came across Jacqui's Spring to Finish challenge and it seemed like a great motivation to get all those unfinished projects done during May. Or at least attack the mountain!

Here's my list of projects in progress:
- skirt and dress for my niece's trip to Disney World
- summer tunic
- trapeze dress
- Street Stripe Kai shirt
- one more Barcelona skirt
- another skirt from a McCall's pattern

And I have a few toddler birthday gifts I *must* get to this month too.

I am proud to say that I did get two little pairs of shorts for my nephew completed last night yay! I'll post pics when I get his sister's clothes done too.
