My new diaper bag is done finally!

What a project this was!
I finished my new diaper bag late last night. It's the Modern diaper bag from Amy Butler's Little Stitches book. It's HUGE - I actually scaled it down 25% (except I kept the depth of 4", so there was lots of fiddling with the measurements before I even began) and now it's a perfect size for me. I think there were 50+ pieces to cut out, it was not simple or quick!
It has a magnetic tab closure, a cell pocket on the outside end, 4 interior pockets (I think I pleated these wrong, oh well) which are large enough for my diapee & wipee case, water bottle, etc.

I also made the matching changing pads (also from the book). I used this super soft minkee-type fabric and they are quilted. I made two so one can be in the wash and I'll still have one ready to go.

Spool birdie

In a very it's-a-small-world way I discovered a fun fabric store nearby! The path involves a norweigan, a british mama, a fairy swap, 10-minute trousers, a picture of a bird mobile, and an unsubscribed-for home decorating magazine randomly arriving at my door. But at the end I discovered Spool Sewing is a shop here in Philadelphia! The fact that I had printed out their instructions for the birdie pattern here just the day before (and still didn't realize they were a brick and mortar shop less than a mile away!) just shows how close I was to missing it.

Crazy-Quilt Fabric Coasters!

They turned out rather wild!

Amazingly I didn't go mad dealing with all of these teeny tiny pieces. I have so very little patience as a sewer, but these went together reasonably quickly.

Not that I've ever actually done this as a quilt, but I think I pieced these using a crazy quilt method. You stack up the fabric, cut all at once and then rearrange the order of the cut stacks of pieces. Then sew a bazillion seams and hope for the best. I got to use some scrappy bits for this and forced myself to let go of being too matchy-matchy.

First Post!

Welcome!
I'm still getting acquainted with this site, blogging in general, and trying to figure out what I want to say here!

Why Loose Threads?
Well, I mean for most of this blog to be for crafting. Things I've made, tutorials, links to other crafters' great projects and blogs, great fabrics, non-fabric crafts, and reviews. BUT, I'm rather scatterbrained so expect me to go off on random tangents too!
